Handmade Masculine Card

Truly Tailored cardToday I am sharing a Handemade Masculine card made with the Truly Tailored Stamp set by Stampin ‘Up!.  This is one of the cards that I used for a swap at the Hartford OnStage event.

Did I mention how much fun my team and I had at the Hartford OnStage event?

I do really like the Truly Tailored stamp set and the coordinating True Gentlemen Designer paper!  One of the better masculine sets that Stampin’ Up! has released in a while!

I also like the Z Fold format which I seem to use for masculine cards each year.  Lol, I am too predictable!

So the Details on this card:
1.  the Card base is a 11″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Crumb Cake cardstock scored at 5 1/2″ and 2 3/4″.  Fold into a Z format.
2.  I used Chocolate Chip Cardstock to layer the True Gentlemen Designer paper on.  I mixed up the patterns on the Designer paper for the various panels to give the card interest.  That is one of the best things about Stampin’ UP! Designer paper.  All the pieces in a given set coordinate and look great together!  The dimensions for the layers on this card are:
  • Back piece – chocolate chip layer cut to 5 3/8″x 4 1/8″, Designer paper  cut to 5 1/4″ x 4″
  • Two smaller pieces – chocolate chip layer – cut to 2 5/8″ x 4 1/8″,  cut the designer paper layer to 2 1/2″ x 4″
  • Layer these pieces onto the Crumb cake card base
3.  Next cut a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock to 3″ x 9″.  Score this piece at 3″ and 6″.  Again fold into a Z pattern.  The dimensions for these pieces are:
  • Front piece – cut a piece of night of navy cardstock to 2 7/8″  square, cut the designer paper to 2 3/4″ square.
  • Back piece – cut a piece of tranquil tide cardstock to 2 7/8″ square and cut the designer paper to 2 3/4″ square.
  • NOTE – I left the center vanilla square blank.  You could add another layer to this pieces as well.
4.  Add a piece of the Corduroy Night of Navy ribbon around the first layer before you attach the layers to the vanilla Z fold card.  Stamp the sentiment “to a Classy Kind of Man” with Night of Navy ink on a scrap of very vanilla cardstock.      Also stamp the little bow tie with Night of Navy ink.  Punch out the sentiment with the Tailored Tag punch.  Trim around the edge and cut out a tag with the punch from Night of Navy cardstock.  Adhere the sentiment to the Navy tag.  Cut out the bow with your snips and attach on the sentiment over the comb.

5.  Now for the back panel.  Use the Chocolate chip, Night of Navy and Tranquil Tide markers to ink up the sentiment stamp “wishing you a Dapper Day”.  I used night of navy ink to ink the “wishing you a”  and the Tranquil Tide marker to ink up the “Dapper Day”.  I used the chocolate chip to ink the mustache.  Stamp onto a piece of very vanilla cardstock.  Cut this out with the stitched circle framelit that fits around this sentiment.  Attach the circle to a scalloped circle cut from the Layering Circle framelits.  Attach to the back side of the 3×3 piece.

6.  Line up the front Z fold panel with the center of the front panel of the card.  Make sure to add adhesive to only the left side of the panel as you want half the piece to hang over the closed edge.

That’s it!  Your done!

I hope that you have liked my Handmade Z Fold Card made with  the True Gentlemen Designer Paper and the Truly Tailored stamp set.

How to make a Masculine Card

Today I am going to show you how I took a Valentine’s card that I made a couple of days ago and transformed that card into a Masculine card.  One of my customers asked me “How to make a Masculine card” using the Stampin’ Up! Warmth and Cheer Designer paper from the Holiday catalog.  She specifically wanted to use this paper for a Masculine Valentine’s card. This paper has a very masculine look with plaids that look like flannel shirts or masculine sweaters.

The card base is Cherry Cobbler cardstock cut the long way at 4 1/4″ x 11 and scored at 5 1/2.  Next is a layer of whisper white cardstock cut to 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″.  The third layer is a piece of Warmth and Cheer Designer Series Paper cut to 4″ x 5 1/4″.

The band on this card is a crumb cake version of the same pattern of Warmth and Cheer DSP cut to 1 1/2″  x 5 1/4″.  I like the modern images of this DSP and I especially love the fact that Stampin’ Up! Designer papers always coordinate with Stampin’ up! cardstocks.  There are several shades of red and each Designer paper has the colors listed so It makes it so easy to match colors when crafting.  You always know that the colors listed on the DSP will coordinate with the rest of your project!

I stamped the sentiment “Love – Note” with Cherry Cobbler ink on a 3/4″ x 3″ piece of Sahara Sand cardstock.  I cut the end to look like a tail. and added a few of the enamel shapes to the end of the tail.

Next I stamped the String of hearts with real red ink on whisper white cardstock and cut out the strings of hearts using the matching thinlit dies!

Last I added a layer of Whisper White cardstock cut to 4″ x 5 1/4″ to the inside of the card.  I stamped “Happy Valentine’s Day” with a string of hearts along the bottom.  A quick and simple card!

So the lesson here is if you see a card that you really like but need to change the tone of the card, just change the Designer Series paper!  Stampin’ UP! products make that easy.  All the Designer papers are labeled with all the colors included in each paper pattern.

Happy Stamping!

Sheltering Tree Card

Today I have a card that I made for my Leadership swaps using the Sheltering Tree Stamp set and Adventure Awaits stamp sets from the new Occasions Catalog!  I love Sheltering Tree!  I can see so many possibilities for cool projects with this stamp set.  Doesn’t this card remind you of a walk in the woods on a Fall day??  I can easily say that I underestimated how long it would take to stamp 20 of these cards..  Each tree is stamped four times with five colors of ink!

For the details of this card:

The card background is Pumpkin pie.  The images are stamped on a piece of whisper white that is cut to 3 1/4″ x 4 1/2″.  This piece is layered on a piece of soft suede cardstock.

The Tree is stamped several times in different colors of ink to represent the colors of fall.  I specifically used:

Wild Wasabi and Old Olive for the greens.  The other fall colors are Real Red, Pumpkin Pie and Crushed Curry.  The tree trunk and branches are stamped using soft suede.   I actually stamped the soft suede off on a scrap sheet of paper before stamping in the cardstock.  I wanted the trunks to be a little lighter in color so the leaves would pop more.

The message “Choose the Road Less Traveled” is from the Adventure Awaits stamp set.  I love the sayings in this set!  It will be a great set for Scrapbooking!

Stay tuned – my Design Team – Stamping New England is featuring the Sheltering Tree stamp set for our February projects!  So I will be showing some more ideas with this set over the next couple of weeks!

Happy Stamping!

Masculine Card & Catalog update

On Monday Stampin’ Up! hosted a New Catalog Premiere at 40 theaters around the US and Canada.  SU staff was in Long Beach, CA  and made a live presentation on the new catalog which was broadcast around the county to the 40 theaters.   So there were approximately 200 demonstrators that gathered in Marlboro, MA to get a sneak peak of the new catalog and see some demonstrations of new products!DSCN0213 copy So when demos gather together the favorite thing to do is swap!   I designed a masculine card as Father’s Day is coming up! The Designer Paper is High Tide Designer paper from the Occasions catalog. The stamp set is High Tide and Teeney Tiny wishes for the Father’s Day greeting. The shell is stamped using crumb cake ink on whisper white and punched out with the  1 3/8″ punch.  I used a blender pen and little pink piroDSCN0210 copyuette ink to highlight the contours of the shell. The fish is stamped with marina mist and highlighted with a little pear pizazz. The seahorse is stamped with crumb cake also. The card stocks are Calypso coral and soft sky layered onto pieces of designer paper from the High Tide Collection. I wasn’t too sure if I liked the combination of the bold stripes of the high tide paper under the stamped images – so I also tried the card using Crisp Cantaloupe stretchy ribbon in place of the bold stripe. In my opinion, the ribbon takes away from the masculine look of the card.  But still a nice enhancement!  Which do you like better??   So now the good stuff – Here is a picture of the new catalog which is fantastic!! DSCN0215 copy   As you can tell by the cover there are lots of new embellishments which are my favorite!! the two biggest additions to the new Catalog are: 1.  The partnership with Becky Higgins and the introduction of Project Life products!  Stampin’ Up! has developed several sets of Project Life journaling cards that coordinate with Stampin’ Up! colors and Becky Higgin’s line of products! 2.  Blendabilities are here!!  I just pre-ordered mine this morning and can’t wait to try them out! These are alcohol based markers that are used for coloring and deliver a much brighter color that the regular Stampin’ Write markers. 3.  The heavy Baker’s Twine that was introduced during Sale-a-bration is back in the in-color family!  There are several new frame lit sets and embossing folders.  And of course – lots of great new stamp sets!! Stay tuned for samples with items from my pre-order!  You will be able to place your order for new things on June 2nd.   Have a great weekend! signature line-003
