Today I am sharing two cards that one of my downline Lisa designed using the Beauty Abounds stamp set from Stampin’ Up! This is one of the new sets in the Occasions catalog.
These cards are stunning in person. The camera just does not do these cards justice! The difference between the two cards is the Sale-a-bration Foil that was used on Bottom layer of the right hand card.
The card on the top left has a detailed layer of Basic Black cardstock attached to a layer of Whisper white CS. The whisper white CS is sponged with a little Calypso Coral and Lemon Lime twist inks along the edges of the butterflies to add the color.
The card on the top
Ready to make this card? Here are the details:
First: The card base is a piece of whisper white cardstock cut to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4. Next is a layer of Calypso Coral cardstock cut to 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″. Then a layer of the Leaf patterned DSP from the Sale-a-bration Botanical Butterfly DSP cut to 4″ x 5 1/4″. Under the layers of the butterflies is a large oval cut from Lemon Lime Twist cardstock.
Second: These butterfly dies are two layers. There is a thick layer that is the base of the butterfly and then a thiner die that matches makes the detailed top layer of the butterfly.
You will cut the body of the butterfly from a lighter color of CS. Then cut the detail of the butterfly from a darker color.
Third: attach the butterflies to the front of the card using dimensionals so there is depth to the card. Add a few enamel dots or other enhancement such as the sequins around the butterflies.
HINTS for working with these Butterfly Dies:
Since these dies are very detailed, you need to be very careful when working with them. The detailed layer has some points that are very thin. So they do rip very easily. So here are some of my Tips and Tricks for using these beautiful dies:
When cutting the dies, I use a layer of Wax paper between the die and the cardstock which helps to make the image easier to release from the die. Also I like to use Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets for pieces that you are cutting that are very thin and difficult to glue. Make sure that the multi purpose sheet is on the bottom when you cut with the die. They are a great tool to have in your stash if you do a lot of work with these detailed dies!
Here is the product list for making these cards.
