Variations on a Theme

Variation on a themeToday I am sharing a card that one of my downline’s, Margaret made.  She is one of the very talented designers on my team!  I have a great team!

Margaret designed the original silver card with the Pool Party Cardstock, Bermuda Bay layer and the silver snowflakes and silver Foil.

I love this card and the way that she used half of a silver foil snowflake below the embossed snowflake.  Since the Foil Snowflakes from the Year of Cheer suite come in Silver and Gold, I wanted to try this card with the Gold Foil and the Gold Snowflake.
I found 2 color combinations that I liked with the gold.  The first is a Powder Pink cardstock base with a layer of Cherry Cobbler cardstock.  The second is a Sweet Sugarplum cardstock base with a Cherry Cobbler cardstock layer.

Here are the details on this card.  The card base is a 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ piece of cardstock scored at 4 1/4″ and folded in half to form the card base.  The second layer is 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″ piece of coordinating color of cardstock.  Next is a 4″ x 2 1/2″ piece of the Merry Music Designer Series Paper from the Stampin’ Up! Holiday catalog. Next is a 4″ x 2 1/2″ piece of Silver Foil that is embossed with the Winter Wonder textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  A Foil Snowflake is cut in half and matched up with the embossed snowflake.  Then I used a piece of Pool Party ribbon for the Silver card and a piece of the Gold Metallic edged ribbon for the Gold versions.

The Message is stamped from the Snowflake Sentiment stamp set and cut with the stitched Circles framelits.  I cut two swirls from the Swirly Snowflake Thinlits dies in silver and gold.

That’s it!  A striking card that is now too difficult.

So which color combination do you like best?

Happy Stamping!

Handmade Father Christmas Card

Today I am sharing a handmade card that was inspired by a card that I saw on Pinterest made with the Father Christmas stamp set from Stampin’ Up!  I made this card with two different color combinations and also made a slight change to the layering of the card.
father christmas
This card uses the Candy Cane Lane Designer Paper from Stampin’ Up!  I love the color combination of Real Red, Crumb Cake and Chocolate chip in this patterned paper and couldn’t decide which card I liked better.

Father Christmas is stamped on a
2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ piece of Whisper White cardstock with Black Momento ink.  I used alcohol markers to color in the image.

The Whisper White piece is layered onto 2 pieces of cardstock.  One is Real Red and the second is Crumb Cake.  The layers are reversed on the two cards so the Father Christmas image pops with the pattern of the Designer Paper.
So the dimensions are:
  1. Whisper White layer:  2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″
  2. 2nd Layer:  2 5/8″ x 3 5/8″
  3. 3rd Layer:  2 3/4″ x 3 3/4″
Layering with 1/8″ of an inch makes a very narrow layer.  If you want a wider layer, you would layer with 1/4″ between the layers.   You may notice that the Crumb Cake Card has a slightly wider layer between the card base and the card front.  I used a 3/8″ layer between the base of the Crumb Cake card and the Card front vs.  a 1/4″ layer between the Rfather-cueal red card base and card front.

So the dimensions for the Crumb Cake card are:
  1. Card Base:  5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″
  2. Real Red layer:  5 1/8″ x 3 7/8″
  3. Crumb Cake DSP Layer:  5″ x 3 3/4″
The dimensions for the Real Red card are:
  1. Card Base:  5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″
  2. Crumb Cake layer:  5 1/4″ x 4″
  3. Real Red DSP Layer:  5″ x 3 3/4″
Father Christmas was colored with Alcohol markers.  I used a Cherry Cobbler like color for Santa’s coat.  His shoes are belt are colored with shades of gray.  My goal was to bring out each of the toys that he is carrying with a different color.  The bag is crumb cake and the tin man is also grays.  The tree is colored with an old olive shade of color.  Last, I used the Wink of Stella to color over the images to add some sparkle.  You can’t really see the sparkle in the picture, but it really made the card pop!

So which card do you like best?

Happy Stamping!

Candy Cane Lane Card

Today I have a handmade Christmas card that is made using Stampin’ Up!’s Candy Cane Lane Designer paper.  This card layout is inspired by this week’s Mojo Monday card sketch!
Here are the details on this card:
Card Base:  Whisper white cardstock cut to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and scored at 4 1/4″.  Next is a layer of Real Red Cardstock cut to 5 1/4″ x 4″ and then a layer of Candy Cane Lane Designer paper cut to 5 1/8″ x 3 7/8″.  Snip the top left corner of the designer paper to add contrast to the card.

Next is a scalloped circle cut using the Layered Circle Framelits with another piece of the Candy Cane Lane Designer paper.

The main element of this card is a piece of whisper white cardstock cut to 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ layered onto a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock but to 2 5/8″ x 3 5/8″.

The Gingerbread house is actually not stamped but is cut from the Candy Cane Lane Designer paper.  I used stampin’ dimensionals to raise the cut out house.  Last I stamped the message from the Tin of Tags Stamp set with Real Red ink.

This is a great Christmas Greeting stamp set that has been designed to be part of a Project Kit.  But – you can just order the set which I did since I love this set for Greetings on my Holiday cards.

Handmade Holiday card

DSC_6363w   This beautiful Tall & Skinny Holiday card is made with the Holy Triptych stamp set from Stampin’ Up!.  Even though this set is retired, it is perfect for the Blendabilities markers. This card measures 4 1/4″ x 9″.  The base is a sheet of Silver Foil Cardstock cut to 9″ and scored at 4 1/4″ with my trusty Stampin’ Trimmer.  The background paper is the silver polka dot paper from the All is Calm Designer paper specialty pack. The silver designer paper is cut to 4″ x 8 3/4″.  The next layer is the smokey slate patterned designer paper from the All is Calm DSP. Each image from Holy Triptych stampDSC_6360cu1 set is stamped with Momento ink and colored with the Blendabilities markers.  The images are cut to  2 1/2″ squares and mounted on squares of silver foil. Of course, no card is complete without a little bling…  So I added some Dazzling Details to the halos, wings and gifts of each of the images. The card is finished off with a piece of Silver Satin Ribbon folded into a bow and enhanced with a piece of Narrow silver ribbon and Rhinestone Jewels.   This card was inspired by the sketch from today’s Mojo Monday sketch!   Want to learn how to use the Blendabiilties?  Check out my class tomorrow night – Tues.
